As May draws to an end, it’s hard to believe that five months have already flown by since we began our MBA at IMD in Lausanne. While the classroom, project meetings, and study groups are at the core of our journey, they are just the tip of the iceberg.
Beyond the IMD campus, Lausanne is a vibrant place and has a lot to offer, especially during the sun-drenched days of spring and summer. Other destinations in Switzerland and neighboring countries are easy to reach, so discovery weekend trips are a delightful part of the agenda.
Whether you’re exploring with classmates or venturing solo, there is always a new place to discover, an event to attend, or an activity to enjoy.
Enjoying the sun at the lakeside after exams
For the evening after our exams in April, our amazing social committee organized a gathering at the lakeside at Jetée de la Compagnie. Sitting in the evening sun, enjoying an apéro and the view of the lake – it was the perfect way to unwind and connect after a challenging week– what more could one ask for?

Lakeside ride to France
We love mental challenges and learning about new topics or ourselves. However, physical exercise is a vital part of the day – or week, maybe month – for most of us. So why not combine this with exploring the region?
Thanks to Agustina Bigatti’s initiative and organization, the idea of a bicycle tour from Lausanne to Evian came to life. Whether electric or traditional, all bike types were welcome.
The group set off in the morning, riding the entire 60 kilometers together and uncovering beautiful spots along the way. Alongside the scenic journey, they shared numerous conversations, interesting encounters, and unforgettable moments.

“It’s potluck time!”
Every announcement from the social committee for the next potluck dinner is a highlight, igniting excitement within the cohort. Conversations like “What dish will you prepare?” or “You have to try this…” are all around, and the food is always incredible. It’s all about trying diverse dishes, putting effort into preparing something special for your peers, and ultimately savoring the world’s flavors.

And there is so much more to explore, whether it is grabbing dinner or drinks with friends, engaging in sports, attending cultural events, and various other activities:
- Sauna and cold plunge (every Sunday, no excuses)
- Events at the harbor, such as the recent Thai festival
- Exploring Lausanne’s restaurant and bar scene
- Watches & Wonders exhibition in Geneva
- Enjoying a Sunday brunch with friends
- Hunting for the best ramen or burger in town
- Watching an FC Lausanne-Sport match at Stade de la Tuilière
- Participating in one of the music runs along the lake
- Hiking in the mountains
- Swimming in the lake
I have not done all of these yet, but boredom? Definitely not an option!
Networking and building connections are crucial aspects of the MBA experience, both within the cohort and with alumni.
