IMD MBA student Ronald Omores reflects on the year that reshaped his mindset — embracing uncertainty, redefining success, and discovering new horizons.

Here we go…

As we approach the end of this MBA adventure, it’s time for me to close this journal. I joined this program certain about what I wanted to do afterward. Today, I’m more confused than ever. Yet this confusion isn’t negative. It’s a sign that transformation is happening, a trigger to mute the surrounding noise, step back, and understand what truly matters and where to invest my energy.

This year has been about constant learning, self-discovery, reshaping personal standards, connection, and friendship. For someone who plans months ahead, learning to plan a week or even an hour ahead became my standard. The biggest gift of this program is not a clear roadmap; it’s the ability to operate effectively within ambiguity, uncertainty, and sometimes chaos. I haven’t lost clarity; I have simply gained a new perspective that sees possibilities instead of a single predefined path.

This new comfort with uncertainty was tested during our International Consulting Project (ICP) in Mexico City. The MBA classroom taught us theory; the client handed us real-world complexity. This project felt like a final exam for every soft skill: leading without authority, influencing decisions, navigating stakeholders, and relying on trust. My old, rigid planning style would have guaranteed failure. Instead, I leaned on the resilience and adaptability forged over this year to manage unexpected client pivots and cultural nuances. Delivering results while swimming in ambiguity became the measure of the leader I’ve grown into.

But the ICP was more than the deliverable. It was a full immersion. Outside the project room, we bonded over Mexico City’s vibrant culture and incredible gastronomy, from late-night street tacos to chaotic markets. Seeing life through that new lens, and having honest conversations with teammates, is what truly builds trust. In those shared moments of joy and disorientation, I realized our community goes far beyond any classroom walls.

Now, as the MBA chapter gets to the end, the real excitement begins: launching into the next phase. Yes, the career search brings uncertainty and stress, but I no longer view this as confusion. It’s a horizon of possibility, an opportunity to create my own path. I’m not just searching for a job; I’m positioning myself to find a role aligned with my values and the person I’ve become.

That earlier cloud has lifted, replaced by the confidence that the skills, community, and grit developed here are now part of my permanent toolkit.
