IMD MBA 2025 student Ameny Chaabani reflects on a summer break that brought rest, perspective, and renewed appreciation for the people and experiences shaping her journey.

After a much-needed summer break, we are back. It was a pause that offered rest, space to breathe, and a chance to recharge, but also something deeper: the time to process and absorb the whirlwind of experiences and lessons from the first half of the year, which had built up to an ever-intensifying crescendo in Singapore.

Evolution

Coming back brings mixed emotions; the excitement of returning, paired with a quiet longing for just a little more time away. Catching up with friends outside the IMD world made me realize how deeply we had been living in our own bubble. Stepping out of it felt disorienting. Free time seemed strange, and explaining our journey to those who hadn’t lived it felt almost impossible. More than once, people told me, “You’ve changed.” Each time, I smiled and replied, “I haven’t changed — I’ve evolved.” I’m grateful for that evolution.

Gratitude

By the end of the break, I found myself filled with gratitude. Gratitude for this extraordinary experience, we are privileged to live. Gratitude for the hardships, for the “fertile messiness” in our heads because, as Nietzsche reminds us, “One must still have chaos in oneself to give birth to a dancing star.” Gratitude for the people who were strangers only months ago but have now become a second family. Gratitude for the lessons that will shape not only our careers but also our lives. Gratitude for the challenges and the unwavering support of our faculty and administration. And above all, gratitude for the health, peace, and harmony of the universe that have made it possible to be here.

The next chapter

Now, back in Lausanne, I’m reminded how breathtaking this place is in summer. The days ahead are for focusing on the next chapter, but also for savoring lakeside conversations, long walks through the vineyards of Lavaux, and all the simple, beautiful moments that make this journey unforgettable.
