As the sun rises on a crisp Lausanne morning, the realization dawns on us–we are at the halfway mark of our MBA journey at IMD. It’s a moment of reflection, celebration, and anticipation, encapsulating the essence of our transformation over the past six months.
A journey of self-discovery
The first half of the MBA program has been nothing short of a whirlwind. We’ve navigated through our core subjects, delving deep into finance, marketing, operations, and strategy. Each class has been a building block, shaping our understanding and honing our skills. The intense start-up project pushed us out of our comfort zones, igniting our entrepreneurial spirits as we turned innovative ideas into viable business models.
Our sustainability-focused workshops opened our eyes to the pressing need for responsible business practices, teaching us how to integrate sustainable strategies into our operations. Additionally, we’ve mastered the art of formulating non-market strategies to complement traditional market approaches, a critical skill in today’s complex business landscape.
An integrative exercise
The culmination of this first half was an intense three-day integrative exercise at the ILO – International Labor Organization. It was a rigorous test of our knowledge, teamwork, and resilience, blending everything we’ve learned into a real-world simulation. With this achievement under our belts, our cohort is ready for its first discovery expedition.

What’s next
Half of us are headed to Singapore, while the other half, including myself, are bound for California. Our mission: to explore the venture capital ecosystem and witness tech disruption in novel sectors. This expedition is not just about learning; it’s about experiencing the global business landscape firsthand and gaining insights that will shape our future careers.
For me, this journey to California is a homecoming of sorts. Having spent five years there, I’m eager to return and reconnect with the vibrant energy of the Bay Area. I can’t wait to dive into the world of venture capital and tech innovation and share my experiences and insights with all of you in my next blog. Stay tuned!
