Embarking on my MBA journey at IMD has been a whirlwind of excitement, preparation, and inspiration. From the moment I arrived, the meticulous efforts of the IMD team to ensure a seamless transition have been truly remarkable. From helping us secure accommodation and insurance to arranging special student deals and providing links for booking taxis, every detail was carefully thought out. The accommodation was all arranged, complete with food provisions, making it feel like a home away from home.

One memorable experience was at UBS Bank, where I went to open a bank account. As soon as I mentioned I was from IMD, they ushered me into a private cabin and facilitated the process with incredible efficiency. It was a humbling moment that underscored the respect and recognition IMD commands and reinforced the entrepreneurial and welcoming culture of the institution.
A warm welcome
After settling into our new surroundings, the program officially kicked off with a warm and inspiring introduction by David Bach and Omar Toulan. David asked a thought-provoking question, “Why are you here and not somewhere else?” This resonated deeply with me, reminding us of IMD’s mission to produce leaders who create real impact, driving sustainable and inclusive growth. The session by Omar further immersed us in IMD’s values and vision, setting the tone for an incredible year ahead.
Team building and bonding
Despite its simplicity, our first team-building session had a profound effect. We were tasked with constructing the tallest structure using sticks. While the activity seemed straightforward, it emphasized the value of listening and collaboration, giving us a taste of what IMD stands for. The following session took us on an adventurous exploration of Lausanne, where we worked together as teams to capture photos of iconic spots. It was a fun, interactive way to bond with classmates while discovering the beauty of our new city.

Gastronomy and connections
Lunches at IMD introduced us to not just fine delicacies but also new friendships. I had the pleasure of meeting Kumar and Jonas, whose warmth and kindness made those moments even more special. The welcome dinner later that evening was a celebration of diversity and shared experiences. Each of us shared a fun fact about our lives, sparking laughter and camaraderie.

Insights into the future
The next day brought intellectual stimulation with a session on artificial intelligence from Amit Joshi. I was captivated by the rapid advancements in AI and how it’s reshaping the world. We were also introduced to IMD GPT, a testament to IMD’s commitment to innovation and its entrepreneurial culture. The tool exemplified how IMD is positioning itself at the forefront of transformation in education and leadership.
Sustainability and vision
One of the most impactful sessions was with Peter Bakker, President and CEO of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. His passionate emphasis on sustainability as a necessity, not a choice, resonated with all of us. This was followed by an engaging presentation in Villars by Sophie Bacq and Julia Binder, “ESG is Dead, Long Live Sustainability?” They challenged us to think beyond ESG metrics and strive for a higher purpose of true sustainability.
Adventure in Villars
Our journey continued with a trip to Villars, where we bonded further as a cohort. Snowshoeing was a standout experience – a perfect blend of teamwork, adventure, and the natural beauty of the Swiss Alps (see banner image!). That evening, we celebrated our first week together with a lively dinner and party, complete with dancing and laughter. It was a moment of pure joy and togetherness.

Future-back thinking
The week culminated with an inspiring session by Knut Haanaes on the “future-back” framework. It challenged us to envision our goals and work backward to create actionable plans. This exercise sparked imagination and clarity, reinforcing the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.
Reflections
In just one week, we’ve experienced an incredible array of activities, from intellectual stimulation to team bonding and personal reflection. The thoughtful design of the program and the energy of the cohort have already begun to transform us. As we step further into this journey, I’m excited to see how these moments of learning and connection shape us into leaders who drive meaningful change.
IMD is not just a place to study; it’s a place to evolve. Here’s to a year of growth, challenge, and transformation!
